Julian Leuthold developed the idea for Geoskope following a semester of graduate study at India’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. In considering how difficult it is to learn the hidden logic in countries’ behaviors and problems, he reflected on his time in Delhi: experts try very hard to engage the public while organizations spend enormous amounts of time and money to understand foreign countries, and yet there is a dysfunction in their communication and interaction. Companies and other kinds of organizations have difficulty in learning about countries fast enough to be effective and efficient, and the experts who can help them are difficult to reach and hard to identify by most kinds of organizations. He concluded that when it comes to understanding foreign countries, there is no replacing direct experience and that experience should be directed by qualified people with a great deal of knowledge. This is what Geoskope has been built to accomplish.
Julian is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a degree in International Relations and Business. His specialization has been in South Asian security, economics, and politics. He has consulted for financial and analytic firms. Prior to his time at USC, he worked in the entertainment and online media industry as the Southern California director of a diversified event, media, and marketing firm assisting Fortune 100 companies.
